Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders has urged the Federal Government to revoke the appointment of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Salisu Buhari, as a member of the Governing Council of University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

President Goodluck Jonathan last Thursday approved the composition and appointments of the chairmen and members of the governing councils of the federal universities.

UNN Governing Council has Prof. Emeka Enejere as the Chairman, while Buhari, Chador Labar,  Harison Onwu, and Chief Akin Taiwo are members, according to a statement by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim.

Buhari in July 1999 resigned from the House following allegations of forgery and perjury.

But Executive Chairman of CACOL, Debo Adeniran, in a statement on Tuesday, flayed the Federal Government for appointing Buhari to decide the fate of Nigerian students.

He said, “What do we need despicable people for? What message is the President trying to pass across to our youths and the Nigerian populace by this appointment? Does it mean our country has no men of integrity that are worthy of emulation to run the affairs of our universities?  This will only deepen the rot in our educational system.

“University board appointments should not be politicised or reduced to rewarding party faithful and sympathisers without recourse to morality.”
